Lived experience surveys

Understanding lived experiences is important to us. We all bring unique perspectives -  whether that’s personal, professional or as a carer – these insights help shape everything we do.

Lived experience surveys are a key part of our projects and ongoing learning. They inform our training courses and webinars, guide our communications, and help ensure our work has a positive impact.

We strive to share insights in a way that protects contributors’ privacy and avoids distressing detail. Our aim is to highlight themes that support learning, understanding and positive change.

Current surveys

Below are our active surveys where we’re inviting people to share their experiences. Each one helps us develop training and resources that reflect real voices and real lives.

Note: The topics explored in these surveys relate to suicide and emotional distress. If you find this difficult, consider reaching out to someone you trust or accessing support. Find other support options in our support directory.

Farming, rural and agriculture communities and suicide awareness

What this survey is about

We’re developing a new online suicide awareness training course for people living and working in rural and agricultural settings. To make sure the training reflects real experiences, we’re working closely with the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN) — and we’re seeking insight from those who know these communities best.

Who can take part

  • Farmers and agricultural workers

  • Family members, neighbours and friends supporting someone in a rural community

  • Vets, contractors, volunteers and anyone working closely with rural or agricultural groups

  • Professionals supporting people in farming, rural or isolated settings

Why this matters

People in rural and agricultural communities can face unique pressures — including isolation, financial uncertainty, long working hours, unpredictable conditions and limited access to support. These challenges can increase vulnerability to distress, yet many experiences remain unheard. Your insight will help ensure the training feels authentic, practical and genuinely useful.

LGBTQ+ and suicide awareness

What this survey is about

We’re developing an LGBTQIA+ and Suicide Awareness Training course and want to hear from people with lived or professional experience.

Who can take part
  • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community
  • People supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals (family, friends, carers)
  • Professionals working with LGBTQIA+ communities
Why this matters

The LGBTQIA+ community is recognised as an at‑risk group for suicide due to factors such as discrimination, family rejection, barriers to healthcare and social isolation.

Older adults and suicide awareness

What this survey is about

We’re developing a free training course focused on suicide risk in older adults and want to ensure it reflects real experiences.

Who can take part
  • Older adults who have experienced suicidal thoughts
  • Family members, friends or carers supporting an older adult
  • Professionals working with older adults affected by suicide or distress
Why this matters

Older adults are often overlooked in suicide prevention, despite facing challenges such as bereavement, loneliness, declining health and barriers to support.

Share your experiences

If your experience doesn't fit a survey...

If none of our current surveys feel right for your experience, you can still share your reflections with us.

We welcome stories about using our training, supporting someone in distress, coping with suicidal feelings, life after loss, or any other experience you feel is important to share.

These contributions help us understand what matters to people and shape future resources in a thoughtful and emotionally safe way.

Previous surveys

We regularly run lived experience surveys to help shape our training, resources and communications. When a survey closes, we review all responses and identify key themes. These insights help shape our training courses, webinars and communications.
